SnoreMate: Review & Giveaway
UPDATE: The winners of this giveaway are: #12 – Kathy, #92 – Katiea and #27 – Marina
I have a secret. Its about my husband. Unfortunately…he’s a…
Snorer.
A really loud one.
Poor guy. Its nothing to be ashamed of, I tell him. He cant help it. In fact, he sleeps like a baby through the entire chain saw imitation act. Me, however? Can’t even sleep with him on his bad nights.
We’ve tried pretty much everything from breathing nose strips to earplugs; pillows over my head to pillows under his. Nothing really seems to help.
In searching for other solutions, I came across SnoreMate, a custom fitting mouthpiece designed to help reduce snoring. Seeing that I have the perfect case study right in my own bedroom, I approached SnoreMates to review their product.
The SnoreMate works by moving the lower jaw forward, allowing the airway to increase in size, thereby reducing the vibrations in the throat. The plastic mouthpiece is easily molded using boiling water to form a custom fit, while holding the jaw slightly and comfortably forward.
In my opinion, there are several pros…one being the ease of molding the SnoreMate to a custom fit. Its quick and easy, with clear instructions included in the box. I also notice a significant reduction of snoring when my husband used the SnoreMate…a definite plus. The price is right too, at $44 for a twin pack.
There are also a few cons with the product as well…mainly due to getting used to wearing the piece. If you are an opened mouth sleeper, it will be harder to get used to as you will have to keep you mouth pretty much closed while wearing it. I think it would be helpful if it came with breathing holes between the upper and lower teeth channels. It also takes some getting used to having something in your mouth that isn’t normally there. The documentation states that it will indeed take some getting used to, so don’t give up in the first few nights.
Bottom line, I like the concept of the SnoreMate. Its simple, inexpensive and non-invasive. After the initial break in period, it is a good option for the long term snoring prevention.
Win it! SnoreMates has generously offered a set of two mouthpieces for three lucky winners. Simply comment on this post by June 5 at midnight. Earn extra entries by tweeting up to once a day about this giveaway.

My DH and I are both snorers. We both try to use those CPAP machines but to no avail it just doesn’t work. We have heard of the mouth pieces before and always wondered what they were like.

I feel so bad because I am a huge snorer, according to my husband. I have tried several products to no avail. My husband has even started taking sleeping pills to help him sleep through the night because he says “the harley motorcycle” next to him makes it impossible to sleep soundly. Please help!!!
May 23rd, 2009 at 5:09 pm
My husband snores like crazy! I always nag him to go get a sleep test to see if he has apnea but he’s so stubborn. This looks like an answer to my prayers!
So many nights he spends on the couch cause I kick him out due to the snoring. This would be amazing!!

I snore badly. I have been using breathe right strips but I have a mole on my nose and I can’t put them where they go. I don’t have insurance or I would go for a sleep study and get a CPAP. I would love to have a good nights rest.
May 25th, 2009 at 3:23 pm
I don’t make any noise when I sleep; I’d wake up if I did, so I know I don’t. But this would make my wife feel better, and I love her so much that I can deny her nothing. She thinks I’m noisy.

I snore and I’m not ashamed I can’t help it—I usually sleep on my side–and I don’t snore but when it’s cold my kitty likes to push me over so he can lay on me–and then I snore and my husband wakes me up—then he falls asleep in seconds–and I can’t sleep because his snoring is so loud–of course he insists he doesn’t snore!

I’m actually the snoring fiend in our house. My hubby is such a good sport about it, but there are times that I find him asleep on the sofa when I get up in the morning… I always feel so bad since I know he went to bed with me and at some time during the night he just couldn’t handle the snoring any more. If these work, I would absolutely be willing to try one for his sake. Thanks for the great contest!

I hate to admit that I push my husband when he goes to sleep to wake him up because if he goes to sleep first I will get no rest. When I do fall asleep he sometimes still wakes me up with his snoring I would love the chance to try this and see if it works
June 5th, 2009 at 5:35 pm
While I was pregnant I started making my husband sleep in the guest room because I was sleeping so poorly that I couldn’t stand being woken up by him snoring… now that our daughter is 5 months old he still sleeps in there because I’m already being woken up by her so I definitely don’t need him snoring me awake too! This would be such a great thing to try!
